This latest addition to our Private & Pleasure watercraft policy gives you extra peace of mind! Gone is the horror of realising you forgot to specify your latest acquisition and the “worst” has just happened!

There may be times you’re simply too busy to add and itemise new items to your cover! CMI has just launched our new cover for items used for your vessel that you have not specified.

This eliminates some disappointment and frustration at claim stage, especially when there is a loss and not all your equipment has been itemised accordingly.

Now you can add unspecified cover up to R30 000 for non-permanently fixed items including: fishing rods and reels, fishing equipment, hand-held radios, fish finders, GPS units, water skis, wakeboards, tubes, ropes, fenders, nautical clothing, wetsuits, lifejackets. T&C’s apply.

If you’re locking up your boat till Spring, you may want to know how best to keep it in tip-top shape. We talked to some of our dealers for tips and advice and here’s what they had to say:

No. 1 Tip - having a service before storing is essential!

Some simple steps to consider:
(Please check with your local boat dealer for suitable products).

  • Give your trailer wheels a spin every week or so, to re-grease your bearings. (If grease settles at the bottom of the bearing, the exposed top section could rust.
  • Trailer brakes can bind if parked in the same position for long periods of time. Lubricate the cable which runs into the drum, drum shoes and couplers.
  • Use Fuel Re-conditioning fluid for your fuel tank to stop the fuel thickening and drying out in the vapor separator and clogging the fuel pump.
  • If you don’t have an isolator switch – disconnect the battery. Even if not in use, a certain amount of voltage is used by radios or bilge pumps which could kill your battery.
  • Use a pesticide on the engine wiring/housings – to stop rats etc from chewing the wiring.
  • Jetski owners are encouraged to leave the seat open for proper ventilation.
  • Keep your boat covered and dry.

Cargo insurance provides cover for goods that are transported by sea, road, rail, airfreight or by post.

Cover is provided both internationally and locally for all types of goods with special conditions tailored to suit the unique characteristics of the commodities being transported. We have policies for cargo owners, carriers, freight forwarders, distributers, couriers on a first party or liability basis. Cover from Ex Works abroad through to warehouse risks and onward to final destination can be provided for on a stock throughput policy.

There are many risks which cargo faces as it is transported, despite improvements in packaging and methods of transportation. Loss or damage from accidents, collisions of the carrying conveyance, breakages, theft, water damage and hijacking are common occurrences.

KZN’s East Coast is alive with Sardines and winter holidaymakers could well experience this amazing phenomenon for themselves.

Great sightings (and beachings) have recently been reported off Eastern Cape shores, Port Edward, Banana Beach, Hibberdene, Pumula and Winkelspruit and others.

Between May and July billions of sardines’ spawn in the cool waters of the Agulhas Bank, and follow a current of cold water which heads north up to Mozambique and beyond – often migrating close to the shoreline. This creates great fishing opportunities as predators follow the shoals to feed and onlookers are treated to more Dolphin and Shark sightings.

When they beach, frenzied action from seine netters and the public “first-timers”, turn these occasions into a total spectacle – to the amusement of bystanders and delight of the press.

This annual event is economically important for SA’s fisheries and tourism industries.

Amped powerboat racing drivers from around the country recently tested their skills against each other on the Vaal River - in the first races of the season.

Excitement was at a peak even though crew members were restricted to four per driver and spectators were limited. Many of them found innovative and safe viewing spots – from boats, barges, bridges, the Riverside Sun Hotel VIP spot and along the riverbanks.

Seven Formula 1 pilots raced their hearts out in three heats, but Attie Tromp proved unbeatable, taking the top spot. Bruce Stuart placed second and newcomer Che’ Parsons proved his mettle with third place.

12 Excited juniors also took part in three different class events. Youngest entrant, Levi Shepard (son of Club Marine’s Megan), was delighted with his 6th place in his first-ever race.

Club Marine was proud to be a sponsor in this event.

Congratulations to Club Marine-sponsored Travis Fisher, SA’s Open Men’s Slalom Waterski champion – who recently equalled the South African slalom record twice in a weekend! Club Marine is a sponsor of Travis Fisher and we couldn’t be prouder!

Travis skied his heart out to achieve an amazing score of two buoys at 10.75m at 58km/h, even after running 11m in all four rounds – one of very few in the country to have ever done so! The competition was held at Bird Valley Estate near Pietermaritzburg.
